Area teens give back to the city of Saginaw

Simply Matted

An estimated 40 teens and adults from New Life Christian Fellowship Church in Saginaw volunteered one week of their summer vacation to help the city of Saginaw. During the week of June 28th and July 1st, teens were dispatched in small groups to lend their services to organizations in need.

During that week, the teens stayed at Life Christian Fellowship Church facility, learning about teamwork and serving as Jesus did. The teens were responsible for cooking, and cleaning the facility during their stay.

Organizations such as The Underground Railroad, The Mustard Seed, Safe Haven, Old Town Christian Outreach, Rescue Mission, and Adopt-A-Park benefitted from the teens’ hard work in the form of sweeping, yard work, fence painting, house cleaning and paint touch-ups, park clean-up and painting of guard rails, playground equipment, and picnic tables. The Old Town Business District also received a clean-up, and the painting over of graffiti.

Every summer the teens usually take a trip out of state, or even out of the country, but this year, due to tough economic times, it made more sense to stay close to home. Not only does the community benefit, but it gives the teens the opportunity to garner ongoing relationships with our local organizations, and the people they serve as they follow up and maintain the work that was completed.
