Hemmeter School marks their 24th year of SPARK

Hemmeter School Spark Day

Hemmeter School in Saginaw Township held its 24th annual S.P.A.R.K. Day Friday, March 4, for Grades K-5. This year’s theme, Carnival of Learning, consisted of hands-on activities for the students throughout the day. Special guests shared their talents in animals, art, science, history, ecology, and more. Among the presenters this year: a veteran and X-games athlete who shared his experiences as an amputee, a local physician who set up a CSI lab, and a member of the American Chemical Society who demonstrated the science behind popcorn and cotton candy.

Presenters included Bubbles, with Kris Yackel-Friend, former Hemmeter parent, Carnival Games, with Mrs. Bordeaux, Hemmeter teacher, Piñatas, with Mrs. Groll, Hemmeter parent, Stargazers, with Dr. Ramasamy, Hemmeter parent, Science of Popcorn and Science of Cotton Candy, with Dr. Gross, a member of the American Chemical Society (ACS), Clown Mask, presented by a Hemmeter parent, Birds of Prey, with the Wildlife Recovery Association (Mt. Pleasant), Take a ‘Bite’ out of Science, with Dr. Scott Woodbury, Hemmeter parent, History on the Move! With Sandy Schwan, Chief Curator of the Castle Museum, Pollution Solution, with Gary Lange, SVSU Professor and Hemmeter parent, Origami, with Mark DeWolf-Ott, Origami expert, Kid-i-mals, with Bobbi and Chuck Gordon, former Hemmeter parents, X-ccessibility, with Pete Freigang, Wright & Filipis and Jim Wazny, X-Games competitor, Terrarium Fun, with Lisa Kern and Mary Knoll, Hemmeter parent, and Art Kites, with Deb Simonton, former Hemmeter parent.
