Simply Matted

In the last couple of months, owner Craig Golden has been working longer hours due to a significant increase in business. At one time he had 45 different projects on the table.

“Even though business has been steady since the decline in the economy, it has really picked up recently,” Golden stated, “and I’m grateful to the people who come to me for their framing needs.”

Golden opened the frame shop, Simply Matted, 5 ½ years ago after being inspired by an art teacher at Delta College. The shop is located at 8075 Gratiot Rd., and is currently featuring the impressive work of artist David Billy. “Billy” specializes in pencil drawings of such muscle cars as corvettes, mustangs, cameros, chargers, and the Plymouth ‘cuda (barracuda), as well as Harley Davidson motorcycles. The shop even has engineering blueprint drawings of Harley components.

The shop also has a new line of frames in gothic and tiki styles.

Golden only uses Michigan-based suppliers and U.S. made products. He believes in giving old-fashioned service, and listens carefully to his customers’ stories about their photos and memorabilia so that he can create a personalized piece for that particular customer. This attention to detail continues to bring satisfied customers back to Simply Matted.

It is not unusual for him to offer to carry out a picture to your car, and to deliver large items. Golden remembers an instance when a lady had broken her ankle, and couldn’t make it in to pick up her picture, so he delivered it to her house. He’s even helped older folks hang their pictures.
