...Romance Author...1st State Bank presents the 6th Annual Ruby AwardThe RUBY Award (Recognizing the Upward, Bright and Young) began as a way to recognize some of the area’s best and brightest individuals under the age of 40. Its purpose is to focus on those people who are young and already achieving success in their chosen career, rather than older, more established individuals who may have already been recognized for their achievements. The RUBY award is intended for those who have not only made their mark in their profession, but have made a commitment to stay in the area, and have shown their support for the community. While the RUBY Award stands for Recognizing the Upward, Bright and Young, it was also chosen because the ruby is associated with the 40th anniversary. Since its inception, there have been over 60 award recipients from varying fields and industries. Each year the number of recipients fluctuates, depending on how many nominees there are, and their level of achievement. 1st State Bank asks area business people to be on the committee and review nominations, rather than limit the decision-making process only to bank personnel. 1st State Bank has partnered with WNEMTV-5, Great Lakes Bay Regional Lifestyle Magazine, and most recently, the Young Professional Networks (YPN) of Saginaw, Bay and Midland. Within the last year, 1st State Bank has gained support for the RUBY Award from the YPN, which is part of the Saginaw, Bay, and Midland Chambers of Commerce. Since the YPN requires that its members be under the age of 40, many of those individuals have been award recipients. RUBY Award organizers are looking for nominations of people who are under 40 years old who have made a mark in their profession. Nominees must live or work in Bay, Midland or Saginaw County, and the primary consideration will be success in their chosen career. Once applications are submitted, nominees will be interviewed for more detailed information and qualified candidates will be judged by a panel of professionals from throughout the area. There will be multiple recipients. Finalists will be announced in January 2011 and will be profiled in various media sources. 1st State Bank will host a banquet in their honor in February/March 2011 at Apple Mountain Resort in Freeland, Michigan. “We usually have between 300 to 400 people attend the banquet,” said Margo Winieckie, Vice President and Deposit Relationship Manager for 1st State Bank. “It’s a very uplifting experience for everyone involved. People bring their kids and invite family from out of town.” Former keynote speakers at the event have been David Fry, President, Norwood University (2005), Eric Gilbertson, President SVSU (2006), Julie Fasone-Holder, Corporate VP, The Dow Chemical Company (2007), Michael Rao, President, Central Michigan University (2008), and John Lore, President & CEO, Great Lakes Bay Regional Alliance (2009). Nominations are being accepted until November 5, 2010. Forms can be obtained at 1stState Bank offices located at 4805 Towne Centre and 5424 State Street in Saginaw, or 601 N. Madison in Bay City; or at www.1ststatebk.com.
