Quilt Show and Auction to benefit Saginaw Habitat for Humanity

Our Saviour Lutheran Church, located at 2525 Hemmeter Road, at the corner of Hemmeter and Weiss, is getting ready to host the ninth annual Quilt Show and Auction to benefit the Saginaw Habitat for Humanity, admission is free. The auction and show, supported by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, will be the weekend of April 9, 10 and 11. Doors will open at 9 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and stay open until 6 p.m.; Sunday’s times are 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., where at closing the highest bidders will be notified of their purchases.

This year Jane Werner and Linda Grindahl, co-chairs of the event, are expecting over 280 different pieces for the auction, including antique quilts. Items expected to be available at the auction range from quilted bags, bibs, baby quilts, table runners, pillows, wall hangings and large quilts. All of the pieces are handcrafted by people ranging in age from six to 103, and pieces have come from as far away as Texas in the past. Everyone is welcome to attend the event even if it is to just look around without bidding on anything.

Over the last eight years this event has raised over $46,000 that has gone directly to Saginaw Habitat for Humanity. Although the deadline has passed to enter a quilt in this year’s show, anyone interested in donating to next year’s show can contact Jane Werner at 989-326-1192.

Behind them, the quilt on the right is an antique from the Doris and William Borchard estate. It was partially quilted when St. Peter Lutheran in Hemlock received it, and finished the work. The quilt on the left is also an antique from Bucks County, PA.
