...Romance Author...Party on McCartyGet ready for the first annual “Party on McCarty” Summer Concert Series, to take place at the Saginaw Township Soccer Complex, 3575 McCarty Rd. Five separate Thursday events will feature food and drinks starting at 5:00 p.m., with a live band from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Family Night kicks off the summer concert series on June 23 hosted by NextMedia. July 7 will be 80’s Night (97.3 Joe FM), July 21, Classic Hits (96 WHNN), August 4 is Country Night (98 FM WKCQ), and August 18 is Classic Rock Night (104.5 WHEELZ). The concerts are free with a $5.00 donation to park, which will benefit the Soccer Complex. Jon Howell, owner of Lock Tight Storage and Signs (www.locktightministorage.com), located at 6425 Bay Rd., is Director of Public Relations for the Saginaw Township Soccer Association, as well as the Event Director in charge of coordinating “Party on McCarty.” Howell enlisted the help of Saginaw Township Supervisor Tim Braun, who was very diligent in securing the sponsorship of Citadel Broadcasting and NextMedia, and Ron Lee, Saginaw Township Manager, who obtained event insurance and a liquor license. Duane Alverson, President of MacDonald Broadcasting was the first to commit by providing bands and promotions for two of the five nights. Chris Monk, Citadel Broadcasting, also committed to two nights, with Shannone Dunlap of NextMedia taking up the other night. Dow Chemical is the event’s premiere sponsor, providing three tents. Other sponsors include Draper Chevrolet, Saginaw Medical Federal Credit Union (SMFCU), and Yeo & Yeo. Last year the Saginaw Township Soccer Association presented “Taste of Saginaw,” a one-night event featuring food vendors such as Bennigans, Bob Evans, Cardinal Deli, Famous Dave’s, Jet’s Pizza, Maria’s, Patisserie, TGI Fridays, and T’s Treats. Howell is optimistic that many of the same vendors will participate in this year’s “Party on McCarty.” Plans are also in full swing for the much anticipated Midwest Regional Soccer Tournament scheduled for 2012. The tournament will feature elite players from 13 states and 14 regions. Howell predicts the week-long event will bring approximately 60,000 people to Saginaw, giving an economic boost not only to the area, but to popular tourist destinations in the state of Michigan as well. Howell plans to make “Party on McCarty” a yearly event, replacing the Can-American games. For more information about “Party on McCarty” contact Jon Howell at partyonmccarty@gmail.com.
