U.S. Marines Flag Raising Ceremony

Saturday, September 11, the Saginaw Masonic Center, 2655 N. Center Rd., held their annual Veterans Appreciation Day. The event included a flag-raising ceremony by two members of the Marine Corps League of Saginaw, with speaker Robert Zell (www.saluteourflag.org), a VFW Honor Guard 21-gun salute, and a performance by the Heritage High School Marching Band. The Genesee County Young Marines were also on hand to participate in a special flag-folding ceremony. The flag of the United States of America is ceremoniously folded 13 times when lowered or handed to the next of kin at the burial of a veteran.
