...Romance Author...Lincoln will not be seeking another termAfter serving three four-year terms as Trustee of the Saginaw Township Community Schools Board of Education, Judi Lincoln has decided not to seek another term. Lincoln, who was elected to the Saginaw County Commission in November 2008, wanted to focus her attention on her duties with the Commission. She will seek re-election to that office on November 2010. “When the opportunity to run for County Commission presented itself in 2008, I promised to complete the school board term the voters of Saginaw Township entrusted me with,” Lincoln explained. “I have worked diligently for the students, parents and staff for twelve years, and believe I have assisted a fine team in Saginaw Township Schools to provide a quality well-rounded education. It is time for me to focus on other community issues including the County Commission, and many volunteer endeavors.” Incumbent Jenean Coughlin must also seek re-election if she plans to keep her seat for four more years. Any township resident who has an interest in the school district can become a board member. This would give someone with younger children, perhaps, a chance to be active on the school board. All that is needed are nominated petitions consisting of 40 signatures, or in lieu of signatures, you can pay a fee to get your name on the ballot. The deadline for filing nominating petitions for the May 4th election is Tuesday, February 9th, 2010. Forms can be obtained from the Saginaw Township Clerk’s office located at 4980 Shattuck Rd. The school board meets twice a month to talk about concerns relating to schools, and to pass information from community to district, and vice versa. Classes are offered to anyone who wishes to learn how to be a better board member. The board also makes a concerted effort to recognize students’ achievements in areas such as academics, art, and athletics. “The best part of the job for me was encouraging kids to shine,” Lincoln commented. Lincoln retired from active law practice in 2008. She received her undergrad degree at SVSU, followed by a law degree from Wayne State University, and started practicing in Saginaw in 1989. During her time at Wayne State, she was a member of the law review and associate editor. The mother of six children and with ten grandchildren, Lincoln has always been very active in the community. While serving on the Saginaw Township Community Schools Board of Education, she made a point of visiting every school at least two times a year, attending their events to keep current about what was going on.
