Toft honored by STCS Foundation

During the Saginaw Township Community Schools annual foundation meeting at the Arrowwood Conference Center, held Wednesday, May 26, local author Larry Toft was honored for his contribution to the foundation, and presented with a special plaque.

The Saginaw Community Schools Foundation provides financial support to enhance educational opportunities for students in the school district. Foundation grant money was used to help pay for buses and expenses for community based instruction trips to local restaurants, the Delta pool, Mid Michigan Art Museum, LeFevre’s Bowling, and the Dow Diamond Loons Game. It is also used to help pay for training materials for monthly peer mentor meetings, and end of year KNOTS (Kids Need Opportunities To Socialize) parties for elementary schools and middle school.

Larry Toft is the author of Remembering Our Past: Historic Saginaw Township, a 208 page, hard cover, coffee table book about the rich history of Saginaw Township. When Saginaw Township was established in 1831, it included land in what is now Midland, Bay, Genesee, and Saginaw Counties, and was larger than the state of Rhode Island. The book tells the story of Saginaw Township through the narrative of pioneer settlers, complete with photographs, and beautiful illustrations by Elizabeth J. Nagel.

All proceeds from the sale of Toft’s book go directly to the Saginaw Township Schools Foundation to enrich the education of our students.
