Joy Bauer Addresses Covenant Heart Advantage Members

Billie Cradet and Joy Bauer

The Covenant Heart Advantage Health Fair held at the Horizons Conference Center in Saginaw, Tuesday, February 2nd, showcased the many services provided by Covenant HealthCare. In addition to the health fair, Joy Bauer, MS, RD, CDN, author, nutrition/diet correspondent for the TODAY show, was the featured speaker of an exclusive presentation for Covenant Heart Advantage (CHA) members. There was also a book signing and sale of Joy’s books “Food Cures” and “Your Inner Skinny.”

Recognized as a nutrition/diet authority, Bauer works with a diverse clientele that includes Olympic athletes, actors, fashion models and the New York City Ballet. She has written extensively on the topic of nutrition, diet and fitness. In addition to appearing on the TODAY Show, Bauer is also a contributing editor to Parade magazine and Self magazine.

As a part of the presentation, Covenant HealthCare patient Billie Cradit, 39, was inducted into the JOY FIT CLUB. An on-air induction ceremony will also take place in New York City, on the NBC TODAY Show scheduled for February 22, 2010.

The criterion to be inducted into the JOY FIT CLUB is to lose 100 or more pounds through healthy diet and exercise, which Billie has accomplished with the coaching of Marcy Abner, Registered Dietician through the Eat to Live Weight Management Program at Covenant HealthCare.

Billie has attended group and individual classes, label reading sessions at various grocery stores and learning to cook differently.  Additionally, Billie has learned the importance of movement and has trained with Jackie Swanton, Health & Fitness Specialist at Covenant HealthCare Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Since beginning her efforts to improve her heart health in August, 2008, Billie has lost more than 120 lbs.

Together with her husband, children and coworkers, at Bay Shippers, Billie, her family and friends have learned to label read, and switch to healthier foods and exercise. The involvement of family and friends not only helped support Billie in her weight loss, it has also helped the people that are closest to her to make healthier choices, too. She is a great example of “train the trainer.”

Covenant Heart Advantage is a complimentary program offered by Covenant HealthCare to promote heart health. CHA members receive a complimentary quarterly heart healthy publication as well as invitations to special events, like the Bauer presentation.

Those interested in becoming a CHA member simply complete a risk assessment, available online at CovenantHeartAdvantage.com. A paper version of the assessment can be obtained by calling 1.866.COVENANT (1.866.268.3626).

The risk assessment asks for blood pressure as well as cholesterol (overall, HDL and LDL) levels, if you do not have these numbers, indicate “unsure” to complete the risk assessment to become a member. Individuals who are deemed high risk will be offered a free screening with a Covenant HealthCare clinical cardiology nurse.
