The 6th annual Howl-o-ween Dog Costume Contest, held by Saginaw County Parks and Recreation, took place on Wednesday, October 27, at Imerman Park in Saginaw Township. WKCQ and Pet Supplies Plus served as the event’s sponsors. Dog owners had the opportunity to dress up their best friends in a Halloween costume for a chance to win a prize. Registration was free, with prizes and awards given for the scariest, the funniest, best of show, and people’s choice. Barb Sheltraw and Jim Kramer from WKCQ’s morning show, and a representative from Pet Supplies Plus were the judges. Barb and Jim have been judging the costume contest for the last five years. TSS Photography (www.tssphotography.com) and Few Steps From Home Animal Rescue, Inc. (www.fewstepsfromhome.com) also attended. There were winners from four categories: #11, dressed as Michael Vick, won Scariest, #28 & #29, dressed as The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, won Funniest, #21, dressed as Little Red Riding Hood & The Big Bad Wolf, won Best of Show, and The People’s Choice award went to #3, Hillbilly Dog. Each of the winners received a $15.00 gift certificate from Pet Supplies Plus, with all the other dogs receiving a complementary ball as a consolation prize.
