Children's Fun Day at Haithco

In an effort to showcase the park, as well as bring awareness to organizations in the community, the Saginaw County Parks and Recreation Commission along with the Great Start Collaborative hosted a day of fun for children on Tuesday, July 20th, from 5:00 p.m to 7:30 p.m.

Stephanie Wirtz, Outdoor Recreation and Event Coordinator for the Saginaw County Parks and Recreation Commission, outlined the different organizations and activities that took place.

Children had the opportunity to play games, make crafts and collect goodies. Community resource information was also available for parents that day as well.

Among the participants were Rodnick Chiropractic, talking about spine health and handing out balloons, face painting by the Great Start Collaborative Parent Coalition, and a “lollipop tree” by Health Delivery.

McDonald’s Resturant was there handing out orange drinks, stickers, and coupons for free Smoothies and Frappés, the YMCA offered information about programs such as flag football for kids, swimming, their summer day camp, and basketball camp, featuring professional athletes, Tanoris Shepard and Eugene Seals as instructors.

Other participating organizations were Mid Michigan Children’s Museum, The Children’s Zoo at Celebration Square, Chippewa Nature Center, Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan, Kinder Kare, Lutheran Social Services of Michigan,  Saginaw County Department of Public Health, Child Abuse and Neglect Council, Michigan Primary Care Association, Michigan State University Extension, Saginaw ISD Head Start, Saginaw County Parks and Recreation, and Saginaw County Mosquito Control.

Parents and kids were given a checklist to be signed by a representative at each station. Once all stations were visited and the card completed they could return it to the registration table to be entered in a drawing to win a prize pack from the Saginaw Spirit.
