...Romance Author...Tittabawassee Township Fire Department Receives GrantThe Tittabawassee Township Fire Department, 355 Church St., in Freeland recently received a grant from FEMA to purchase a robotic fire truck and animated Sparky costume. Don Ortega has been a firefighter for 19 years, and is in charge of fire prevention for the department. The grant enabled him to procure the fire truck and costume which will be used to help teach fire prevention to kids at area schools, as well as other special events. The remote control fire truck comes with Sparky as the driver, is equipped with an MP3 player, flashing lights, a siren, and it squirts water. The operator can “drive” the fire truck, make Sparky’s head move, his eyes blink, and speak using a specialized headset, and controller. The animated suit is operated by the wearer, and also has an MP3 player, the eyes blink, the mouth moves as the operator speaks, and the voice can be changed. It’s a fun and entertaining way for kids to learn about fire safety and prevention. Along with the fire truck and costume, the station also received a new equipment trailer. Sparky and the robotic fire truck will be at the Tittabawassee Township Park on Wednesday, July 7, for Safety Day.
