...Romance Author...Lawn Chair Film Festival begins June 20Beginning June 20, Old Saginaw City will host its eighth annual Lawn Chair Film Festival. In the last two years there have been over 10,000 people attending the movies, and they hope to see a good attendance again this season. This year’s line-up for the free outdoor festival includes a fantastic menu of classic, blockbuster, and Oscar-winning films. All movies are sponsored by local businesses and supporters located in and around Old Saginaw City. Admission for the festival is free, and is held every Sunday at dusk in the parking lot at the corner of Ames and N. Hamilton in Old Saginaw City. Refreshments and chair rentals are available, although movie-goers are also permitted to bring in snacks and coolers. There are volunteers selling concessions to help raise money for the community. August 1st is children’s movie night with the animated comedy, The Fantastic Mr. Fox. The festival aims to be a “no fear” zone, to show people who wouldn’t normally come into the City, that it can be a safe, fun place, even at night. The movies are projected onto the side of a building at the corner of Ames and North Hamilton streets in Old Town. Even though in past years the Lawn Chair Film Festival has lucked out with weather, if the usual Sunday night screening is disrupted by weather, organizers always reserve Monday night as a rain date.
