Court Street Gallery

The Court Street Gallery, 414 Court St., between Michigan and Hamilton in Old Town Saginaw, will be celebrating their one-year anniversary June 20th. Owners Paolo and Sarah Pedini opened the gallery in order to fill the need for a working art gallery in the Saginaw area. The 2,000 square foot space has been converted into a gallery and artist co-op studio space, with four artist’s studios, including a full-time photographer.

The gallery received the Great Lakes Bay Magazine’s Best Gallery award for 2010, as well as Best Artist going to Paolo Pedini.

In an effort to promote Saginaw in a positive way, Pedini has designed a T-shirt with the theme “Saginaw Love,” which is available for purchase from the gallery, or www.courtstgallery.com.

With five exhibits each year, the gallery showcases the talent of new artists from cities like Detroit, Flint, Bay City, Saginaw, and Midland. The next new exhibit will begin June 18th, and run until September. The featured artists will be Jim Fives (painter), Doug Thornhill (photographer), and Sean Gallagher (skateboard design artist).

“We want to give new artists a chance to display their work, and receive recognition,” said Sarah Pedini. “Any artist who has the confidence to approach us will be given fair consideration.”

Other events sponsored by the gallery are the June Kid’s Art Camp, June 14 – 16, and June 21 – 23, and Last Friday, a music, poetry and art program that takes place at the gallery on the last Friday of every month, at 7:00 p.m. National poets are often brought in to read.

The gallery has also teamed up with the Court Street Café, located across the street from the Saginaw County Courthouse, displaying their artwork in the restaurant.

The Court Street Gallery is open Tuesday through Friday, 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. For more information, call Paolo or Sarah at 992-5867, or visit their website at www.courtstgallery.com to learn more about the featured artists, upcoming events, and to get your own “Saginaw Love” T-shirt.
