Community Village receives a Wii


Bowling has become a regularly scheduled activity every Monday at the Community Village assisted living home for seniors in Saginaw Township, thanks to a donation made in memory of Joseph and Marjorie Rilko. After receiving an unexpected dividend check posthumously from Joseph’s insurance company, the family decided to put it to good use and purchased a Wii game console for the home’s residents in Joseph and Marjorie’s names.

So far they’re only in their second week and everyone is still learning, but Activity Director, Marianne Holubowicz, plans to eventually schedule more days during the week, possibly adding golf and game shows in the future.

According to Holubowicz, it’s a great way for seniors to experience mild activity while socializing with fellow residents. Many of the participants are ex-bowlers, and the Wii game gives them a chance to enjoy the sport without leaving the facility. Keith Hebl from maintenance set up the Wii to display on a big screen, and Holubowicz acquired extra game controllers. They’re now able to rotate through groups of four players during a game, giving everyone a turn.
