A special ceremony took place at the Saginaw Sam’s Club on Friday, June 25, to present a Wal-Mart Foundation award in the amount of nearly $10,000 to the Sexual Assault Center of Child and Family Services. Joe Smith, Store Manager of Wal-Mart Super Center-Brockway Rd. presented the award to Carrie Schultz MSA, Marketing & Development Director, Child and Family Services. “I’m absolutely ecstatic about the support and commitment of our local Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club in getting involved with the Sexual Assault Center,” said Schultz. “We need their continued support.” The donation award was achieved through associates who participated in the volunteerism Always Pays Program and through the continued support of Wal-Mart Super Center-Brockway Rd., Wal-Mart Super-Center Bay Rd., and Sam’s Club. “It feels good to give back to the community, especially after all the negative things that have been said about Wal-Mart,” remarked Tracey Chesney, Marketing Representative for Sam’s Club. “Wal-mart gives thousands of dollars in grants per year to our community.” The Sexual Assault Center of Child and Family Services annual Strike out Sexual Assault Bowl-a-Thon took place on April 16, 2010. Proceeds from this event will be used to support sexual assault victims and their families. The event was a great success, raising over $30,000. “We’re very thankful for the many sponsors, bowlers and, lane sponsors who took part in the Bowl-a-Thon,” Schultz said.
