Bay Street Station restaurant is open for business

The new Bay Street Station restaurant, 1313 Bay St. in Saginaw, opened its doors for business for the first time on Wednesday, March 31. Formerly Nine’s Firehouse Pub, the building stood vacant for a year before owner Brian Lombard decided the location would be perfect for his new restaurant.

Lombard owned and operated the Overtime Bar on Genesee and Hess, near the plant, for 14 years, but had to close due to cuts at GM. He already had the tables, chairs, bar and restaurant equipment needed to open his new restaurant, so it was only a matter of submitting paperwork, and transferring his liquor license.

“I always wanted a small, quiet place,” said Lombard. “With 14 years in the business, I knew what I was getting into, and I’m confident it will all work out.” Lombard believes the fact that his restaurant is located in a nice neighborhood area, is close to West Side Saginaw businesses, and he offers Wi-Fi, will help make it a success.

The warm, friendly, welcoming atmosphere is due to the decorating talents of Lombard’s wife, Kathe, and the logo was designed by local artist, Tommy Hammond.

Customers have already given rave reviews of the menu, stating that “The Works” specialty salad is presented so well, and has so many items that it’s just “too pretty to eat.” Other favorites from the menu are the South of the Border burger, the Focaccia Club, the Bay Street Dip, and the Jack Bourbon Chicken Breast sandwiches.

David Lagalo has been a chef for 20 years, and worked to make every item on Bay Street Station’s menu appealing and delicious, using quality, fresh ingredients to create an enjoyable dining experience.

It’s encouraging to know there are people still willing to take the chance to open a new business, regardless of the state of our economy. “One good thing that comes out of a bad economy is that it creates entrepreneurship,” Lombard went on to comment. “It sometimes gives people that extra push they need to take that big step they might not otherwise have the opportunity to take.”
