...Romance Author...Frank N. Andersen Celebration Park Grand Opening
Saginaw city leaders and local community members were invited to celebrate Frank N. Andersen Celebration Park’s “Splash Bash” official grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony, Thursday, August 26. Visitors were treated to free hotdogs, popcorn and pop, and were welcome to enjoy the zero-depth Mershon-Whittier Splash Pad. Various sponsors such as Citizens Bank, the Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum, Children’s Zoo at Celebration Square, Public Libraries of Saginaw, and the Saginaw Arts Enrichment Commission, were also on hand offering information, as well as games and prizes. Besides the water attractions at Frank N. Andersen Celebration Park, there is a skateboard park, playground equipment, the Dow Chemical Boardwalk, and Bocce Ball Courts. During the ceremony, Saginaw City Manager, Darnell Earley, made a point to thank the countless donors, and also gave thanks to additional grant money that made the $1.7 million park possible. Mayor Greg Branch and Earley were joined by others in the ribbon-cutting ceremony. One of the three buildings at Celebration Park is now home to the police department’s new Regional Analysis of Police Technology and Operational Reporting program, or RAPTOR. Police Chief Gerald Cliff explained how the cameras at splash park are in close proximity, record everything, and are well-monitored, making it a safe environment. Soon they would like to take the technology to the streets. The Frank N. Andersen Celebration Park is located on Fordney Rd. between Court St./Ezra Rust and M-46, across from the Saginaw YMCA.
